Alberta > Dependent Adults Act > Guardianship:

What happens if an order is granted?

The clerk of the court present in the courtroom will make a notice of the judge's decision and often the lawyer representing the proposed guardian will already have prepared an order for the judge's signature. The judge may then sign the order immediately. It is then filed with the Surrogate Court clerk. All such orders must be reviewed from time to time. The maximum time an order will be given for is 6 years and the court may specify a shorter time for review and also who must apply for the review (generally the named guardian).

Note that the Act also specifically says that the dependent adult or any interested person on his behalf may apply to the court at any time for a review of the guardianship order.
