Alberta > Employment Law > Employment Standards:

I work for a television company in Calgary. Am I covered by the Alberta Employment Standards Code?

No. Television broadcasting is an industry that is covered by the federal government Canada Labour Code. Other industries and services covered by the federal government include railways, shipping, telephone systems, radio broadcasting, air transport, and banking. Federal laws cover similar areas relating to employment standards to the provincial laws, but should be checked for your circumstances. About 10% of the Canadian workforce is covered by the Canada Labour Code. The rest are governed by provincial or territorial laws.
