Alberta > Protection Against Family Violence Act:

Do I have to have a lawyer for the hearing before the Queen's Bench judge?

It is not a requirement to have a lawyer, but you may find it helpful. You can hire a lawyer privately. If you cannot afford the cost of a lawyer, you can apply to the Legal Aid Society of Alberta who can provide legal assistance subject to financial limits.
