Why is there a different child support chart for each province?
The
amount that it costs to live can vary greatly across a country as
big and diverse as Canada. It may cost a lot more to feed, clothe
and provide a home for children in Vancouver, for example, than
it does in a small town in New Brunswick. For that reason, a payment
of $100 a month per child might be fine for a small town family
but totally inadequate for an urban family. By taking into account
regional differences in the cost of living, the government hopes
to make child support payments fairer for all Canadian families
facing divorce.
