National > Divorce > Federal Child Support Guidelines:

With the Child Support Guidelines, can judges be involved and make decisions about child support payments?

Yes. The Guidelines are there to "guide", but there will always be situations that require special attention or treatment because of how complicated and unique family situations can be. Sometimes a judge will have to decide on things like extraordinary expenses, or what would be a fair amount of support when one parent's income is very large (so that more than an ordinary lifestyle can be maintained for the children).
