What happens if a parent refuses to provide financial information?
If
one parent refuses to provide financial information, then the other
parent can apply to the court for a hearing or a judgment. A judge
is likely to look with disapproval on the other parent's refusal
to cooperate and assign an income amount to the uncooperative parent
based on the other parent's information. This could mean that the
uncooperative parent's income is assigned at a higher amount than
it actually is, because the judge must make a decision based on
incomplete information. The judge can also order that the parent
who did not provide the information pay the costs of the court proceedings.
