National > Divorce > Federal Child Support Guidelines:

Are there other remedies for non-cooperation about financial information?

There are several other steps that can be taken. The applicant can ask the court for an order directing the other parent to disclose financial information as required by the Guidelines.

If the parent still refuses, the applicant can ask for an order saying the uncooperative parent is in contempt of court, striking out any documents filed by that parent or assigning an income amount to him or her directing that the uncooperative parent pay the costs of the application. The applicant may also arrange for an examination for discovery, which is a question and answer session done under oath so that his or her lawyer can get some information about the other parent's finances.
