National > Travel > Returning to Canada:

What if the total value of the items I bring back to Canada exceeds the money limits allowed?

If you bring home goods whose value exceeds the allowable limits, then you will have to pay "duty" or taxes on those items. The Customs staff at the airport or border crossing will figure out how much that will be. You will not be allowed to take those items away with you until you pay the duty. You can pay it on the spot or you can come back later with the money, but in that case, the items will stay at the Customs office until you come back to pay the duty.
