You should speak to your lawyer about who to consult. Most lawyers will have three or four experts that they use. You and your spouse, through your lawyers, should try and agree on who will prepare the report. Consult with your lawyer to make sure that the assessor who is selected for your case is right for you. Some assessors might have special expertise, for example, with children who have special health needs or suffer from learning disabilities, and this might be relevant for your family. You and your lawyer should also be careful to assess whether a proposed assessor has any known biases, for example, tending to lean towards joint custody in most cases, that might not work in your situation.
