Who pays for a custody assessment?Usually the parents pay the cost of the assessment. If one parent does not have an income, then the cost can be adjusted when the divorce is finalized and assets are divided. In some provinces, a provincial counselling service can conduct the assessment at a reduced fee or no cost. If the court orders an assessment and money is a problem, then in some provinces, the court can order that the provincial body do the assessment at no cost.
