I agreed to rent a house for one year. My lease said that the agreement could continue after the year was up if I let my landlady know that I was staying. If I give notice to say I will be staying, will I be renewing the fixed-term lease for another year?

It will depend upon what the exact terms are in your original agreement. If the agreement states that when you give notice that you are staying in the house, you will have another fixed term of one year, then that is what will occur. If the original agreement simply said that you had to give notice that you were staying in the house at the end of the fixed term, then your tenancy becomes a periodic tenancy. Your previous fixed term was for more than one month, so you will now have a monthly periodic tenancy.
