It is important to understand that when you rent an apartment you will be entering into a contractual agreement and you will be bound by the terms and conditions of that contract. This includes conditions put in place by the Alberta Residential Tenancies Act and any additional things that you agree to when you sign a lease. Even if you do not sign a lease, you are bound by the Act and any verbal agreement you make with the landlord.
