Can I change the name on my passport?
Yes. You may wish to change the name on your passport for many reasons, including:
- you get married or are in a common law relationship
- your relationship ends
- you legally changed your name
- you want to reclaim your Indigenous name
Except if you are reclaiming your Indigenous name, you must apply for a new passport. Keep reading the other FAQs to learn more.
Remember, your passport should match your other ID and your travel bookings. For example, if you book a holiday and then decide to change your name before you go, you may experience difficulties if the bookings are under your old name but your passport has your new name.

There is a section in your passport near the beginning where you can write your address. If your passport shows an old address, cross it out and write the new one above. If there is no room, then write your new address on a piece of paper and insert it into your passport. Never use white out on your passport!
